I remember my first year as an undergrad I thought I knew everything. I was on a full ride because of a 4.0 grade point average that I work my tail off for. I sent the perfect admissions letter because I figured out the right things to say based on research I did on previous successful applicants.
My dorm was meticulously laid out based on sketches I had been making since I was a sophomore in high school. I had all of my notes for every class organized and categorized by time and subject. My meals for the week were cooked every Sunday and I had a personal trainer that I saw every other day.
I remember one Monday morning, I was up bright and early because I had a Physiology class at 8 am. I had my bag packed, early jog completed and was headed to the kitchen to fix myself a quick breakfast. As I was debating whether I should go with milk or orange juice the whole room suddenly went black.
The doctor said it was the worst concussion he’d seen all year. Turns out my roommate spilled milk on the floor the night before and didn’t clean it up. Because I was rushing I didn’t see the mess below me and ended up slipping and slamming the back of my head on the ground.
When I asked my roommate why she didn’t clean it she said it because she was drunk and we didn’t have a mop. Can you imagine, the girl who had everything together forgot to buy a freak in mop?
I learned real quickly that I didn’t have it all figured out. And while I made plenty of mistakes since that day, I always try to keep a good mop around.
My mop of choice is the Bissell 1940 steam mop. I decided if I was going to keep the floors clean I would go all the way.
The first thing I love about the mop is the fact that it kills bacteria at an amazing rate. 99.9% of all germs are killed on contact. That’s an incredible number for a simple mo.
Febreze spring breeze fragrance Discs keep my kitchen smelling fresh regardless of how much cleaning I do. For a college student who lives with a roommate it is imperative that I maintain a pleasant environment even when I’m cleaning so it’s nice that I don’t have to worry about the house smelling like chemicals.
The Bissell was built with convince in mind, the tank is placed at the very top of the mop so you can refill it with water why you’re using it. That’s much better than removing a clunky tank and collecting water from the sink. And it’s certainly nicer than keeping an old school mop bucket around to stink up the house.
The dorm here has hardwood floors in the kitchen and any damage done to them would be charged to my parents when I move out. That’s a big problem for a girl who doesn’t have a part time job. Luckily my Bissell is safe on tile, marble, stone, ceramic, sealed hardwood, linoleum and even laminate flooring. It does the job and leaves very little wear and tear, a huge plus.
I’ve made a lot of mistakes since leaving my parents’ house but one of my best decisions was buying my Bissell. I plan on keeping it through grad school and hopefully when I graduate my degree will prove half as useful as the mop has.
